MEET JULIA - OCT, MA, RP, Psychometrist

Julia brings a diversity of experience working with children and teens of different backgrounds and unique needs. Having worked as a teacher, and also having two children with exceptionalities, she realized that she had a heart for working with kids who are marginalized and fall between the cracks of our educational and/or mental health system.

With her compassionate and sensitive heart, she is quick to establish a rapport with her clients and their families, and provide them with the individualized support and care they need. She is known for her warm sense of humour and ability to bring fun to the situation, while balancing that energy with practical strategies to address specific problems.

Julia works alongside Dr. Merry C. Lin, CPsych, to provide psychological and psychoeducational testing for children, teens, and adults. Her main goal is to pinpoint the client’s strengths and areas of need, and will work together with parents and individuals to provide practical recommendations for successfully managing intellectual, learning, behavioural and/or social emotional differences at school, in the workplace, or at home. Organized and thorough, Julia is appreciated by parents for her ability to bring much needed structure into the environment. She also possesses excellent communication skills while interfacing with parents to ensure that she is working effectively together with them to support the family.

Julia graduated from York University with a Specialized Honours Degree in the Arts, a Minor in Humanities, and a Bachelor of Education in the Primary/Junior division. She also has her Special Education Additional Qualifications through the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario. For 3 years, Julia sat in as a member of the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) for the Durham Board of Education representing the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada and continues to work extensively with children and teens who have been diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, TS+, ADHD, and Autism. Julia holds a Masters in Counselling Psychology and is registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Julia has been trained in working with sexually traumatized children, CBT, Sandtray, and Play Therapy.
She has been married for 24 years and is a cool boy-mom to two beautiful young adults.
