Parental Coaching
Are you a parent or guardian & looking for additional support after receiving a diagnosis for your child?
As a parent of two teens with exceptionalities, I get it. I have been in your shoes. I remember the panic, the tears, asking questions of people who didn’t know how to answer, trying to explain what we’d heard to friends and family and only receiving blank stares. I had no clue where to start or where to go. If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place.
I offer tailored parent and client consultations which aim to provide ongoing support to clients who have been assessed or have had their children assessed, in order to help navigate the diagnoses. In your sessions, you can get assistance with:
Understanding the Assessment: Julia will discuss the diagnoses with you and help you with a more in-depth look at what this means at home, school, or work.
School Advocacy: As a former teacher, Julia can help you navigate the school system and explain how the school may set up modifications or accommodations for your child on an individualized education plan (IEP).
Resources: You will be provided with valuable tools and strategies, books, websites, and other resources to help you on the journey to continued learning.
Community Services: Helping you learn about programs and organizations in and around the Durham Region will be beneficial in facilitating ongoing success for the client.
Emotional Support: As a mother of two children with exceptionalities, Julia has first-hand experience of all the emotions a person might experience when trying to reconcile what all of this means for themselves or their child. She can walk through this with you so you don’t feel alone on the journey.
